• What is the Nikkei Volleyball Club?
    • We are a non-profit volleyball organization that strives to provide a competitive, fun and safe playing environment through the two coed indoor volleyball league nights we sponsor.

  • How long has the Nikkei league been around?
    • 20 years as of 2009. Nikkei was founded in 1989.

  • How do you pronounce “Nikkei?”
    • The phonetic pronunciation is: knee-kay.

  • Where do you play?
    • We play at Saratoga High School.

  • When do you play?
    • There are two league nights, Mondays and Fridays.

  • What time is league?
    • Play starts at 7:30pm and ends at 10:30pm.

  • How many games are played each night?
    • Every team plays 2 matches (2 games each) and will also ref one match.

  • When does each season begin?
    • League is held during Spring, Summer and Fall. The Spring session usually begins in early March. Generally there are a couple weeks in between each season.

  • How long is your season?
    • Each season lasts 9 weeks (8 weeks of regular league play and one week for playoffs).

  • What is the difference between Monday night and Friday night?
    • Monday night is often described as more of a relaxed and social environment.
    • Friday night can be considered our more competitive night, but they still have a lot of fun.

  • How much does it cost to play?
    • Current membership dues are $64 per person, per season.

  • How is Nikkei different from other leagues?
    • NVC follows most of the 1997 USVBA ‘old school’ rules and regulations. Our league is unique in that we incorporate different levels of play and new teams are selected each season by selected captains. (Captains change each season and no one person is allowed to be a captain two seasons in a row.)

  • Who can play?
    • We require potential players to be “sponsored” by a current Nikkei member / player. Sponsorship is required because of the unique format of the league – each season captains draft new teams. In order for the captains to draft teams fairly, players’ skills & attributes must be evaluated and described as accurately as possible. Also a minimum level of ability is required.

  • What can I expect from playing in Nikkei?
    • You can expect to play in a competitive league where you can meet new people, hone your skills, and most importantly have a lot of fun. Also, many people gather before and after playing to eat or drink or just hang out.

  • Do you have a league website?
